Tzolk'in
English
Description
Tzolk’in: The Mayan Calendar introduces a unique game mechanism known as dynamic worker placement. Players represent different Mayan tribes and place their workers onto large, interconnected gears. As the gears rotate each round, the workers are automatically carried to new action spaces.
On your turn, you must choose one of two options. You may place one or more workers on the lowest available positions of the gears, paying corn as the game’s currency. Alternatively, you may retrieve one or more workers from the gears and perform the action associated with their current position.
The further a worker has advanced along a gear, the more powerful the action it provides. Time itself becomes a key resource. Patience is rewarded, but skipping a turn is not allowed. If all of a player’s workers are on the gears, they must retrieve some and take actions.
The game ends after one full rotation of the central Tzolk’in gear. There are many paths to victory. Players may please the gods by placing crystal skulls in deep caves, construct temples, or develop a strong and efficient economy. The player who best adapts their strategy to the passage of time will emerge victorious.
