Description
Dive into the political tension and societal complexity of Terraforming Mars Turmoil, the fifth expansion that returns you to Mars at a time when progress, power, and human ambition collide. Turmoil enriches the game with new corporations, fresh project cards, and a whole new strategic dimension: global events that appear three generations ahead, giving you the chance to prepare, exploit, or mitigate their effects. From dust storms to riots to shifting economic demand, each event shapes the long game in powerful ways.
At the core of Turmoil lies the political arena of the Terraforming Committee. A new action lets you assign delegates to competing parties. Your first delegate each generation is free, while additional ones cost 5 MC. Neutral delegates added by global events reflect the desires and momentum of Martian society. Control the most delegates in a party and you become its leader. When a party gains more delegates than any other, it becomes dominant and will rule the next generation.
The ruling party grants a one time bonus, an ongoing policy, and gives its party leader the Committee chair, worth 1 terraform rating. These shifting agendas create a living political landscape you must read, influence, or destabilize.
Parties, Bonuses, Policies:
• Kelvinists: Bonus 1 MC per heat production // Policy 10 MC grant 1 heat and 1 energy production
• Scientists: Bonus 1 MC per science tag // Policy 10 MC allow drawing 3 cards once per player
• Unity: Bonus 1 MC per planet tag // Policy titanium is worth +1 MC
• Mars First: Bonus 1 MC per building tag // Policy placing a tile on Mars gives 1 steel
• Greens: Bonus 1 MC per biological tag // Policy placing greenery gives 4 MC
• Reds: Bonus 1 TR for the lowest player // Policy raising TR during the action phase costs 3 MC more
The political arena also determines player influence, which lets you modify the global event in your favour. Influence is gained by being Committee chairman, being leader of the dominant party, or having delegates in the dominant party. To balance all these new benefits, the Committee lowers every player’s terraform rating by 1 each generation.
In Turmoil you can push bold agendas or take a cautious economic approach. You can spend influence to soften global events or adjust your play to benefit from them. And you can anticipate rival agendas, support them when they help you, or counter them when they threaten your path.
