Carnegie
German
Description
Carnegie is inspired by the life of Andrew Carnegie, who was born in Scotland in 1835 and emigrated to the United States with his parents in 1848. Although he began his career as a telegraphist, his key role in the rise of the American steel industry made him one of the richest men in the world and an icon of the American dream.
Andrew Carnegie was also a notable benefactor and philanthropist. Upon his death in 1919, more than 350 million dollars of his wealth was donated to foundations, with an additional 30 million dollars given to charitable causes. His endowments led to the creation of nearly 2500 free public libraries that still bear his name today.
In Carnegie, players run a company in the United States during the late nineteenth century. They recruit and manage employees, expand their business, invest in real estate, produce and sell goods, and create transport networks across the country. Along the way, they may collaborate with important historical figures of the era. Players may even become renowned benefactors who contribute to national progress through vision and generosity.
The game is played over 20 rounds, with each player taking exactly one turn per round. On each turn, the active player chooses one of four available actions, which the other players may then follow. This system creates constant interaction and meaningful strategic choices.
The goal of the game is to build the most prestigious company, represented by victory points. The player with the highest total at the end of the game wins.
