Description
Obsession transports you to mid 19th century Victorian England where you take charge of a respected yet troubled country estate. After decades of decline your family fortunes are finally improving. Your goal is to carefully develop your estate increase your social standing and earn the respect of the most influential families in Derbyshire.
Over the course of 16 to 20 turns players build a personal deck of Victorian gentry renovate their estate by acquiring new rooms and outdoor spaces and manage an extensive household staff. Butlers housekeepers underbutlers maids valets and footmen are assigned using a novel worker placement system to ensure prestigious social events run smoothly.
At the heart of the game are high society gatherings such as fox hunts music recitals billiards evenings political debates and grand balls. Each turn players select a building tile representing a specific location within or around their estate. This choice determines which event may be hosted and which guests can be invited. Success depends on careful planning and having the appropriate staff available to serve both the event and the guests.
Successful events reward players with new investment opportunities increased reputation within the county valuable connections among the elite and a larger more skilled domestic staff. As the game progresses a competitive courtship emerges for the most eligible young gentleman or lady in the region. This rivalry introduces specific renovation and reputation objectives that must be met.
The player who best fulfills these objectives while accumulating the most victory points will win both the favor of the wealthy love interest and the game itself.
