Description
The horror motif from Shadows over Innistrad is expanded to Cosmic Horror in Eldritch Moon. The emblem of the set expansion is a stylized Emrakul silhouette, which also resembles Liliana's headgear. The set contains 205 cards (74 commons, 70 uncommons, 47 rares, 14 mythic rares), 15 double-faced cards, 6 Meld cards (3 pairs) and premium copies of all cards that are randomly inserted. In certain booster packs, a checklist card replaces the basic land.
Eldritch Moon brings back four mechanics from Shadows over Innistrad (all except Investigate), as well as three new ones:
- Meld: When certain conditions are met, Meld forces two independent creature cards to transform and combine into a single monster, resulting in a giant card. Bruna, the Fading Light, and Gisela, the Broken Blade, are two such creatures that can merge.
- Escalate: Escalate is a modal instant and sorcery spell that has the ability to escalate. If the user pays the Escalate cost, they can use the spell in additional modes, such as Collective Effort.
- Emerge: Resurgence is a powerful Eldrazi creature card ability that allows the player to pay an alternate mana cost by sacrificing a creature and paying the difference between the resurgence cost and the sacrificed creature's converted mana cost.
