What Cities and Knights changes
1. New refined commodities
Three powerful commodities reshuffle the rhythm of the game: paper from forests cloth from pastures and coins from mountains. Cities now produce one resource and one commodity turning them into engines of progress. These commodities fuel urban upgrades that unlock abilities crucial advantages and additional victory points.
2. A new progress card system
The old development deck is gone. In its place stand three specialized progress decks each tied to a commodity. You do not buy these cards. Instead your upgraded city districts may activate on specific dice results granting access to more varied balanced and strategically potent effects. This adds depth flow and long term planning to every match.
3. Knights and the looming threat of barbarians
Knights become central tools of control. Build them along your roads upgrade them and use them to move the robber or claim key intersections. But their greatest purpose reveals itself during the regular barbarian invasions.
Only by working together can the island be defended. The strongest defender earns valuable rewards while the weakest loses a city reduced back to a settlement. These moments add tension cooperation and risk in a way that reshapes the entire game experience.
